Samuel H. Okoshken

Sam Okoshken, a graduate of Brown University and NYU Law School, also obtained a Masters of Law in Taxation from NYU Law School. He put in a stint with J. K. Lasser publications, writing tax articles and books. As a member of the New York Bar, he spent 2+ years with a medium size New York law firm as their sole tax associate, thereby gaining a broad background in many areas of tax planning. During that time Sam co-authoring a tax book with the well-known Sydney Kess.

Sam created his law practice in Paris in 1974, his clientele at that time drawn from the Paris expatriate community. In the 28 years since then, he has become a member of the Paris Bar, and built up a prestigious clientele around the world whose problems generally fall into the following areas:

  • Income tax planning, U.S. and French
  • Preparation of French and U.S. tax returns for residents and non-residents of France
  • Estate planning for persons with international estates
  • Estate administration - helping families through the arduous period after the death of a loved one.
  • Structuring new businesses in France for individuals
  • Expanding foreign businesses into France
  • Helping French individuals and companies who are seeking to set up a business in the U.S. with their visa and tax planning, as well as creating U.S. entities
  • Facilitating and structuring the acquisition of real property in France
  • Obtaining visas and work permits for incoming executives.

He has put together a small by highly competent team of lawyers and paralegals who are first and foremost service-oriented, to help him advise and assist his ever-expanding clientele.

Sam serves in an Of Counsel capacity to an international law firm (Paris, London, Brussels and Washington), and himself maintains an office in New York, which he visits occasionally to meet with clients. Sam writes in his various specialties, and has had articles published in the International Herald Tribute on the subjects of tax problems of the American expatriate, U.S. tax problems of nonresident aliens, and structuring offshore trusts. He also lectures on a regular basis to groups in Paris on these very same subjects. Sam's approach to his law practice is "restrained creativity". He is a problem solver and looks for the creative solution, but his experience and knowledge of the two tax and legal systems allows him to structure solutions for his clients that are well within the acceptable limits of the law.
